Hi All,

My wife and I have just purchased a home on Sector C, we are collecting the keys later this month, as I've only got a week off work we are flying this time but driving over at Christmas.

I'm looking for any & all suggestions for a one night stop over hotel somewhere around Lyon in France.

I drive around 1,200 miles a week with work so I'm used to driving distances & we've driven to France a number of times before.

I'm thinking that the location whilst tiring to reach is manageable for us.

I'm thinking something like our premier Inn standard.

Thanks in advance for your anticipated help.

Paul & Jan Abram.

Hi there,

Congratulations on your purchase. In previous years, I have spent many weeks in Lyon, which is the gastronomic capital of France. I have stayed in hotels in the centre of the city, which if you are passing through and not planning to savour the gastronomy, is probably not where you want to be. May I suggest checking booking.com, hotels.com or one of the other aggregators. I am sure you will find something to suit budget and location requirements.

Welcome to Camposol and good luck.

Thank you very much & being a " chubby" chap, I might now think about extending my stay, sounds like heaven to me

I drove the following route...

Calais > Rouen > Le Mans > Tours > Poitiers > Limoge > Toulouse > Perpignan > Girona > Barcelona > Valencia > Murcia.

I travelled down through the UK and through the tunnel on my first day and stayed in a hotel at Calais, so I could start early the next day. I then did the Calais to Perpignan section in one day - it is 600 miles, but do-able. I then stayed in a hotel near Perpignan and had an early start to do the next 600 miles the next day. If you go via Lyon, you are adding considerable distance to your journey and will probably need to pay tolls on the 'route du soleil'.

Most of this route is not on toll roads, which saves about £150.

I would recommend Ibis hotels. They are cheap, but decent and in good locations just off main road connections

Hope this helps!

We used to travel down though France fairly regularly many years ago.

We had three routes.

The west route down via Bordeaux, the east route via Lyon & then the straight down to middle route bypassing Paris.

We used budget hotels similar to Ibis hotels, HotelF1 they are called.

There are lots of other brands & they all tend to be grouped together.

Rather bizarrely many of then are on out of  town trading estate types areas.

Most of them you can book online in advance.

Hi Richard,

Thank you very much for your advice, I really appreciate it.

Sounds like a good plan all round.

I've stayed in Ibis before so I'm fine with that standard, thanks again

Have a safe trip.

We used to love our drives down to Spain.

Look out for the Honey Buzzards perched on the fence posts of the roads !!
