Hi

I have recently purchased a property on Sector D and it will only be used as a holiday home, so visits once per month maybe.

I have been directed to Iberdrola electricity providers and now i have to choose my plan.

Can anyone give me any direction on what is the best plan to take out, given that we will only visit at best once per month for 4 or 5 days at a time?

Thanks

Joey

Don't use the night & day plan it will not save you any money if it is just a holiday home.

Thanks Roland.

Do you recommend the all hours tariff then?

Do you know approximately what it is likely to cost on a monthly basis?

You should be able to get a quote online - the Iberdrola website has an English option.

The equivalent of the UK ' Standing Charge' varies depending on the 'potencia' which is the maximum your meter can draw. The standard amount is 5.75kW, but you could have higher or lower depending on the size of the property.

We pay €0.123 per kW of potencia per day - so at 5.75kW, this would be 5.75 x 30 x €0.123 = €21.22 per month.

Your consumption should be very low when you're not there - alarm? fridge/freezer? security lights? and the consumption tariff varies around the €0.15 per kWh mark. In a month when we're not at our property, we consume approx. 100kWh, so that would be an additional €15.

And then the whole sum is suject to a 5% energy tax and then 21% IVA (equivalent to VAT), so in this scenario, you could be paying around €46 per month. If you find your potencia is lower, then just exchange that in the calculations above and you shouldn't be far off.

If you are there for a long weekend every month, then maybe add €10-15 for your consumption only (the potencia only varies by the number of days in the bill period). If you have aircon, a pool pump, heated pool, etc. then the costs go up...

Hope this helps!

RichT sums it up well.

I am on a 3.3 kw supply & with no usage at all I have a bill of around 14 euro per month depending on the number of days in the month.

I pay the full bill by DD every month from my TransferWise euro account.

Hi Roland, around €14 is a great rate. Who are you with and which plan are you on? On the Iberdrola 8 hour plan my bills were around €26 during no usage months. It could be our basic KW supply is higher than yours but I think it might be worth a trip to Iberdrola in the port to find out whether a 3.3kw supply would be sufficent for us. Cheers

Iberdrola or Curengia as they are now called

Standard 3.3 kw tariff as below

TYPE OF CONTRACT: PVPC without time discrimination.

TYPE OF METER: With smart meter effectively integrated into the

remote management system.

Billing for real hourly consumption.

Per contracted power € 11.13

Rent measurement and control equipment € 0.80

VAT 21% on € 11.93 € 2.51

TOTAL INVOICE AMOUNT: € 14.44

At 26 euro per month no usage sounds like a 5.5 kw tariff.

Thanks Roland, may I ask what size of property you have? And if you have air con etc? We are not there and are receiving a bill of. Between 35 and 55 euros. I can momentarily change the bill to English but it always reverts back a d cannot see what my potential is online. We only bought back end of 2019 and have only managed to visit 3 times.... Thanks in advance,

The Potencia is shown on the top left of the front sheet of the new style bills; and it's also the first line in the section that shows the bill calculation. For example, my last bill shows:

Potencia facturada 9,2 kW x 27 días x 0,123288 /kW día  (the 9,2kW is our potencia)

Roland would appear to be better placed to advise on any potential issues with a 3.3kW potencia, as I imagine that you need to be careful not to use too many appliances at the same time or you'll be popping a fuse!
