Definitely give painting them a try first.. at the moment we can't afford to replace our kitchen so husband painted them and bought some handles from eBay..  does for now and brightens the room. 

Nice one Nessy and hubby  thanks. White has got to be the way to go for us as well.We are honing our skills on the spare bedroom wardrobe doors first, see them less often 😁 should it not work out too well. Might need to buy shares in a paint manufacturers though, going to need lots of the stuff.
