Hi all.... Happy New Year! Can I just ask what your opinions are about whether to leave deeds with solicitors, or keep hold of them safely yourself?

You may be aware of this already - Spanish houses do not have deeds in the way that a British house would. Each time a property is sold a new escritura is made for the new owners. Back in England, I might have reservations about keeping deeds at home but we have our escrituras here with us in the house, no problem.

We have always kept ours at home hopefully in a safe place. If you leave them with a solicitor you are committing to using their services and might not have them easily available.

And the only thing a solicitor does for nothing is to write out their bill...
