Thank you again Kerris for the useful information.  Will definitely make sure passport correct before we leave.  Good advise about the t-bags and water🙂.  It's good hearing from people who have already made the journey and the experience they had.  It's all very nerve wrack...

...ing but exciting at the same time.  I know it's not until September but really need to start planning our journey.  Can I ask after your stop in France did you continue straight to Spain and if so how long the drive was.  Hope you don't mind all the questions!!

Regards

Caroline

I left Manchester at 2 pm on Friday 31st March, first night in Calais, second night's Hotel still in France, crossed into Spain morning of 3rd day, arrived Los Alcazares 10pm Sunday.

I advise taking longer, I hired a professional driver and we were in his hands, all a bit of a rush.

3 overnight stays with sensible stopping times, ie, early evening for time to get a good meal and rest.

Good planning is the key and you can't start too early. Good luck, Kerris

Thanks again Kerris.  3 overnights stops sounds reasonable due to the length of the journey.  My husband will be doing the driving as I don't fancy driving on French Roads!!!! We are thinking of 2 stops in France and 1 in Spain which will give him a break.  We are flying over in 3 weeks to look at property in Sucina and Balsicas so if everything goes according to plan should be ready to move middle to end of September.

Thanks again for all your advise, it's been really helpful.

Regards

Caroline

Hi Karen

I wrote to you a while back regarding travelling to Spain with my cat.  We are due to leave the UK on 25 August and are going via the channel tunnel.  We are staying with my son in France for 12 days before driving down to Spain.  Would you be able to give me the name of the hotel where you stayed in Girona as we've worked out this is roughly half way between my sons house and Murcia.

Many thanks

Caroline

Hi Caroline

It's hotel costabella girona.  Really good reviews and I have called hotel to ask if pets can be left in rooms so we eat in restLaurent and they said yes as long as pets r happy otherwise tgey can goto the dining room.  It doesn't look a huge hotel like a holiday inn butlooks nicevabd staff who I have spoken to are so friendly.  Thus hotel was also recommended on fb page in a Murcia group.  We are staying tge re this Saturday night agree leave .uk on Fri and stay in Dijon first night then girona.  I will give you a full update on Sunday with my actual experience

Thank you Karen, this is really helpful.  We're planning on driving from Edinburgh to Folkstone with an overnight stop before going to France to give hubby a rest then it's roughly a five hour drive to my sons in Obernai from Calais.  It's then a 15/16 hour drive down so also decided Girona would be an ideal stopover.

Look forward to hearing how your trip goes.

Thanks again

Caroline
