Does anyone know la Union?
I'm looking at a villa but don't know anything about la Union areas bars, restaurants anything to do? Living somewhere new I wouldn't know anything if I've chosen the right place my Spanish is poor.

Usual advice: rent in the town for three months, long enough if it fits what you want. With all the on costs for buying and selling, and the likelihood that it could take years to sell, it is vital that you get it right.

I was there for a few hours earlier this year, in the centre. It definitely felt like a working Spanish town, with no signs of ex-pat life. It does have a train station and a direct link to Cartagena to the south and the Mar Menor resort of Los Nietos to the north.

Difficult and expensive: our previous house in Andalucia was on the market for over a year, and we had to accept an offer well below market value. Other houses around were unsold after several years, and there is of course the usual estate agent commission of 5% + IVA.

Yes thanks for that you have to be really certain about buying before pushing the button and renting while making up your mind is a good idea it's not defining because the house you choose is not in the same place as your rental and you might miss the industrial pig farm that sets up next to you.

No more difficult than anywhere else. If you buy with selling in mind, you won't go far wrong. A lot of people never consider selling and will buy for the wrong reasons. At some point, your property will be up for sale, whether by you or whoever inherits it. Never be in a hurry to sell either, and location is key. Good luck
