Hi I made an equiry about a flat in an old part of town in lo pagan, the estate agent informed me that all 4 flats are on one electricity bill and split the bills evenly.  Has anyone heard of this? is sounds crazy to me as this would be a holiday home..info and opinions welcomed

Sounds a tad archaic to me

I’ve got a holiday flat in a communal block in Lo Pagan and all bills are on a flat by flat basis. I’m confident that’s the general rule of thumb

it’s a great area though

Good luck

Regards

That sounds like trouble waiting to happen.

You don't say if this is rental or 4 privately owned flats. The answer to your question  depends on which?

Hi Fio

We bought an appt in Los Alcazares 3 years ago and this is the same. There are 3 appts but only 1 electricity meter and 1 water meter. The bottom floor appt is technically the owner of the meters and when each bill arrives our estate agent liaises with her and we pay a portion.

Not an ideal situation and we would like to remedy it, but have been quoted around €2000 to split into 3 meters. I don't know if we could just get our own meter installed, but the arrangement is working quite well at the moment with no arguments!

Thank you, the estate agent has subsequently clarified that it is just the communal areas that are shared... He followed up by saying  I should know there are maghreb people living in the building and area which I believe is morrocan/ arabic. Is that not an odd thing to say or is he trying to tell me something...to me it's an unusual thing to say... Property is in calle rio sil.. Thanks

Hi

My lawyer “power of auturny “ seems to have signed a contract 30/04/21for electric company Iberdrola.on my behalf. Does any one know if this is an ok company?

Not that I can do much now the contract is signed on my behalf.

Thanks Marlene

Nothing wrong with Iberdrola at all.

The biggest energy supplier in Spain.

Iberdrola is the standard electric company for the area but there are now other companies offering alternatives. Just ensure that if the property was owned/rented by someone else before, that your lawyer has changed the contract for the applicable dates. We sold our house in Lanzarote and the lawyer of the buyers forgot to change the contract and we got 3 huge bills for their electricity. Luckily we were on friendly terms with the buyers and they repaid us the cost of the bills but not until we had threatening emails from Iberdrola for the money! Then we moved into rental accommodation while our new house here was being built and the same thing happened there when the agent forgot to transfer the contract to the new tenants when we left and we had the same battle getting Iberdrola to stop sending us demands for the money. So, when we took over our new house, we opted to go with another company from the beginning!
