I have been with Avatel (and the previous companies they have taken over) for many years.  Recently I have had a number of problems with their internet service.  I called them yesterday and the lady on the phone said she had carried out a number of updates  and I should switch off the router for 10 minutes and all should be good.

Well today it is exactly the same, in fact it is worse.  I am supposed to have 600 mps and over the last couple of weeks my 2.4 has been non existent on the 1st floor but I get some 5G which should be not available when around 5 m from the router (or in the same room) which is not ideal.

So today I phoned again and after a lot of talking about what they  CAN'T do I was informed that Avatel will now only guarantee WIFI on the ground floor.!!!!!  So in a 2 bedroom terrace house (on fibre)  not only will you NOT get 2.4 above the ground floor (it worked previously all the way up to the solarium) they are now saying if they send out an engineer (many have been around recently sorting out other customers in this area) they will be charging no matter who is at fault!!!  All he wanted to do was to sell me more equipment!!!

So my advice is DON"T go for Avatel as their customer service is awful and basically they don't care.   When I said I was going to another provider he said "fine".  A number of people I know have been having similar issue with Avatel's internet.

The issue maybe now that Avatel (based in Malaga region) have been taking over many smaller providers around Spain and once they have total control over the market they will just do and charge what they want. While looking for other providers I have found that while some have an old established name they are actually owned and controlled by Avatel.  The other issue now is that as fibre is being rolled out across Spain as Avatel have taken over all these companies on a number of urbanisations/towns/villages they are the only company who have access to the fibre operation so that is not good news for the consumer.  Going back to the old Telefonica days here in Spain when we had NO choice!!!!!!!!
