Hi,

The first thing you will notice is how much more expensive the cars are over here than in the UK. I moved over last year and was constantly trying to compare prices over here with what was on autotrader UK. It will drive you to distraction so only use it to look up specifications and running costs which you can convert into mpg etc.

Unless you have your heart set on, one try and avoid convertibles as they are even more expensive because of the lure of having the top down in the sunshine. All well and good until it gets really hot. A friend of mine went on a long drive and ended up being sunburnt on the top of his uncovered head!

Also you will find some dealers offer a lower price if you take out finance! I popped into a couple of main dealers and they showed me a few cars in my price range and I said how much for cash?  They wanted more for cash usually an extra €1000 .

I bought my car from http://yourcarmarmenor.com/ who are also on Torre-Pacheco road.

The owners Andy and Amanda are brilliant and will also arrange car insurance for you, handle all the transfer paperwork. My car came with 1 year warranty covering engine and transmission. Unfortunately after a few months it developed a fault and the necessary work was carried out under warranty and a free courtesy car provided. The car was 8 years old and although it was fully serviced and checked over it developed a fault which is just one of those things.

I asked Andy why cars so expensive here. Apparently the market is less buoyant than in UK as the Spanish tend to hang onto cars for ever and a day. Also the weather here is kinder to the underside and bodywork so you wont find rot due to horrible UK drizzly weather/ snow and salt usage on roads. On the plus side they hold their value relatively more when you decide to sell. You will pick up bodywork damage as for some reason the Spanish aren't too careful where or how they park and will just open doors without much care. That's my experience, more supermarket type dings.

Andy also warned about some unscrupulous dealers/traders selling flood damaged cars. He won't touch them.

Sorry for the waffle but if you do pop in to see them mention me....John Brown. I'm not on commission but am highly impressed with the service and after care.

Hi John, you answered so many questions !! I was puzzled about the prices, yes much dearer than UK.

Also I found extrange that they are cheaper if  financing them !

Definitely I'd like to have warranty and will mention your name for sure when I go there around mid July, moving to Los Alcazares with my English wife and son.

Really appreciate your waffle lol very helpful indeed.

I will probably will be contacting you if more advice needed.

.thank you so much.

Is it cheaper to buy a left hand drive in the UK and take it to spain and have it registered there or just buy a second hand car there. They seem very expensive compared to UK
