When you say "silly money" you are not appreciating that the markets in the UK and Spain are very different. Cars last longer, so retain their value for longer. There are not the huge fleets of company cars as UK so rarity makes a car worth more here. A car in the UK will rust and deteriorate faster than one in Spain but all that really is irrelevant.

Just do the maths - take the price, allow for some depreciation over say 5 years, cost of IVTM and insurance, add service and possibly costs of airport parking, and hassle of getting it ITV'd when you may not be here, then compare that to the costs of renting. If it works for you go ahead and purchase (never privately in my opinion), of not, keep renting when you are here. If you live here the decision is easier.

Do you see the price of a pint in the UK and say you will not pay that because in Spain it is cheaper? I suspect that you pay the asking price for what you want wherever you are.

When we first bought a second hand car in Spain we were shocked at how expensive they were. As Peter in a previous post said there are reasons for this. At that time we paid €5.000 for a five year old Seat Ibiza. It was in great nick but ultimately when we realised we would be spending far more time here than anticipated we switched to buying a new car and holding onto it for longer than we would st home. Read Peter's post on the subject & buy from a reputable dealer.

also have a look on facebook market place, but inspect car carefully and be advised the debt stays with the car in spain so watch out for any unpaid fines, tax not paid and any outstanding finance, as a guide I have just sold my ford focus estate year 2007 for €2100

Hi. We bought online from caroutlet.es and collected the car the next time we were out. They go fast and we didn't have time to search about as car hire prices were crazy. Excellent service with a 'if you don't like it we'll take it back' attitude. Hope this helps.
