Chrissy,
Thank you. Had not seen that.
Be good if they actually put up signs on the promenade.
Until they do they cannot enforce.

There were no cycling signs along the promenade last summer, they have been removed .As long as the promenade is quiet as it is this year due to the lockdown, surely it shouldn't be a problem. Obviously if numbers of pedestrians increase then cyclists should avoid the promenade.
The police are not stopping any cyclists at this time

Roberto said "Until they do they cannot enforce"
Sorry Roberto but thou dost speak twaddle. There are no signs up in shops saying it is against the law to steal - does that mean you think it is ok? Of course not. If the law says you must not cycle there then no one should.

Peter,
Its an area-specific regulation. so it has to be signposted.
If Spanish law said it is against the law to ride on any beachside promenade, then no signposting would be needed.
Does it? No. Hence the 42 cyclists in 30 mins which started the thread are not being stopped by Policia.
I am sure when signs go up, they will enforce that regulation. At least in the summer.

Cycling is not on any list of prohibited activities on promenade and I've never seen a sign that says it is, get a life and stop whinging.

Just look at the LA Police notice....
CIRCULATION OF BICYCLES 🚲 BY THE PROMENADE
Many of us, going to Phase 1 of the de-escalation 〽️, have taken up some of the sports 🚵♀️🤸♂️🏃♂️that we practiced before confinement.
Many of us use the Promenade 🌊 for running, walking, but there are also people who travel the Promenade by bicycle 🚴♂️.
To inform you that we have already had some collision ⚠️, so we remind you that the use of bicycles on the Promenade is prohibited 🚳, it is a pedestrian area, in addition numerous traffic signs were put up in September, which warned of said prohibition. Those traffic signs were unfortunately painted 👩🎨 and cannot be seen, so they will be replaced as soon as possible.
Let's be civic and respect.

Hmmm, the Policia, don't seem to agree with you about the law, do they?
If you read the notice from the Los alcazares police new notices are being put up and cyclists will be fined
It is on the police information site sadly it took someone getting knocked over and so yes police agree but want the signs replaced and hopefully the person eho defaced them will be caught and prosecuted

The signs were painted out last November and December, from what I observed,
Until new no cycling signs are in place Policia cannot act. And they are plainly not.
They can appeal to people to stop riding on the Promenade, via websites and Facebook, but they must have signs in place,to enforce the regulations.
Off the shelf signs could be in place in a week if Ayuntamiento ordered. They cost around €3.00 each.
