Travel to Spain

As you say very difficult to plan anything as the rules change on a daily basis.

Having said that there are flights from Leeds Bradford to Alicante for £12.14 at the moment.

Lots of friends have driven recently both through France and from the ferry at Santander...no problems. 

Currently, if you travel to Spain, you need to complete the online Passenger Locator information and show that you have done this when arriving at Alicante airport. I travelled in mid-August and there were also several (what looked like) healthcare workers observing people and they appeared to have temperature checking equipment - although we weren't stopped, so I can't confirm.

Most travel insurances will be invalid, as the FCO advice is still against 'all but essential travel', which is a general clause to render most policies invalid. However, following recommendations on this forum, we used Battleface Insurance who do cover 'against FCO advice' travel - although note they do not cover existing medical conditions.

The restrictions in Spain vary by area and have been widely updated on this forum. My observation is that most peole are observing the measures - masks, hand sanitiser, etc. but then I haven't been out to bars & clubs, where apparently the virus is being spread.

On return, you need to complete the UK government online form and self-isolate for 2 weeks. I have been working from home since March, so this was no issue for me, but could be for some people. Note - I received one phone call from a Test & Trace person in this time - but she tended to advise me where to get information and what symptons might be, instead of checking where I was!

I travelled through Alicante in August as well.

There is an overhead thermal imaging camera that takes people's temperature.

The healthcare workers do a double check if anybody shows up on the camera.

I used Staysure for my insurance.

Like you we stayed away from bars / clubs & any public gatherings.

We just returned from 6 weeks in Spain in the Murcia region. We went by ferry as wanted to take a load of stuff over. Ok going but ferry delayed coming back and then stuck on motorway for 5 hours because of crash. TBH felt safer in Spain than UK. Everbody wears masks. We really didn't go out to eat that often.  Don't let scaremongering stories put you off. We are definitely going to fly when we go back. Can't wait.

Things change here day to day, we keep checking Murcia Today for lockdowns and Covid figures.

We are booked to travel by ferry from Ireland at the end of this month, which is the route we usually take as we have pets.  Can anyone tell us what the conditions are like onboard at the moment.  The ferry company assures us that extra precautions have been taken and are asking everyone to stay in their cabins as much as possible, with time slots for restaurant access - sounds a bit grim, but necessary I suppose.  We are in high risk groups, so a bit nervous this time.

Our ferry was very good and we didn't stay in our cabin the whole time. Most passengers were being sensible so we felt very safe. I suppose you just have to accept the meal conditions but it was ok. Honestly it's worth it just to get to your happy place. Bon Voyage
