Hi, we are thinking of buying a property (town house) in the Costa Calida/Almeria/Murcia/Costa Blanca South areas as a holiday home.  We will be visiting the areas soon and have read so many reports about different places.  As we don't know the different areas, I wondered if someone could give us some advice.  Initially we were attracted to the great prices on Hacienda del Alamo, but read that they have terrible problems with flies, as I think do Sucina, Huercal Overa and several other places.  Are there any areas slightly inland that don't have these problems with flies?  We found a small villa in Partaloa, but were concerned about this problem and that it may be too far inland.  Then we looked at areas around Palomares, but found that several years ago there was a nuclear accident here and parts of the area, such as Vera and Garrucha may still be unsafe.  We then moved our search to places around Mar Menor, and liked the look of Los Alcazares and Santiago de la Ribera but read that there are problems with sewage and other pollution on some of the beaches and in the water.  We are now looking at places around Torrevieja and Guardamar del Segura.  Villamartin doesn't get great reviews. We also like the look of San Juan de los Torreros.  It would be nice to have some advice before we go in March and don't waste time looking in the wrong places!

Am afraid flies can be a nuisance during the hot summer months wherever you reside are you planning to live in an English community? And as most people would say rent somewhere first so you can find the best area that suits your needs.

Thanks for your reply.  We don't actually want to live there. but use it as a holiday home several times a year, so don't really want to rent somewhere.  We are going to Aguilas for 2 weeks next month to look at some areas and have been in touch with some Estate Agents.  I just want to find out as much as i can before we go.

We don't mind what kind of community it is, as long as the property is ok and in a good area.  There's no point buying a place for an outdoor holiday if you can't go outside because of flies!

Hi Sharon,  we are staying in Aguilas next month for 2 weeks. Although we don't really want to rent long-term I would be interested to see details of your house. Many thanks, Pat
