Good Afternoon.
Could I ask when your utilities are connected following a house purchase, do you have to physically turn on at a tap/ meter away from the property or outside, or do you just plug the kettLe in and turn the tap on? Thank you

Could be either - our water & electric were still on when we moved in, but our neighbour, who comes only for the odd weekend, always turns his water off at the meter when he leaves. Should he sell I am sure he would do the same.
It is always a good idea to read and record any meters on day 1, then compare to the readings on your first bill.

Normally your solicitor ensures all utilise are transferred to your name and the utility company does not cut supply or if cut, reinstates. If the previous owner has turned the supply off it is a case of finding the stop cock for water, the fuse box for electric or contact the telephone provider.
