Swimming in the Sea - Los Alcazares

Hello

I hope it's okay to ask about this, as we have read so many mixed opinions/reports on concerns over the sea.

We are hoping to buy a property in the next year in the area.  It's really important to me to swim in the sea regularly for health reasons and managing pain.

I'd just like opinions from people who actually live in the area, do you swim regularly in the sea or are there still some concerns.

We absolutely love the area and its the only concern we have.

I believe there are a couple of local public pools to use as well if we don't buy a property with a pool.

I'd be so grateful of some advice or information.

If there are still some concerns I'd be very grateful for suggestions on other areas to swim in the sea.

Thank you so much.

Sorry I can’t help with your query but I, too, would be interested in local views. After the “gota fría” of a few years ago, three? a lot of agricultural debris and fertilised soil was washed into the Mar Menor. I have never swum in it but I have spoken to people who have. I have recently rented in Los Nietos and will be trying the water. Apparently you need to walk quite a long way to get enough depth to swim. I have read that the municipalities are spending time and money cleaning the beaches, and, I hope, constructing a walkway into the sea.

You will no doubt get varying opinions when people answer your question, in the summer months when I have been there recently there are plenty of people in the water, holidaymakers and locals. Not sure how far you need to go out to get deeper water. There are plenty of properties with a communal pool, maybe that could be a priority in your search.

Hi there

I hope that your property search in Los Alcazares proves fruitful. We purchased a property there last year and have been very pleased with the area having been nearer to Marbella before this area presents much better value for money and a more traditional Spanish feel prevails . We had similar concerns regarding the condition of the Mar Menor before purchasing and I’m sure that it will take time to fully recover . However the local authority are very active in taking measures to improve the water quality and we swam there regularly last year without experiencing any issues . We found it to be quite shallow and warm in the summer months so an ideal location for kids to gain confidence in the water . It can be busy in the height of summer but our overall experience of both the Mar Menor and Los Alcazares itself has been a good one . Good luck with your search !

Hi Clive

Thank you so much for your reply, I really do appreciate it.  Its so good to hear that swimming is good as its so important for me to be able to swim.

I've posted on several platforms and everyone has come back to say how beautiful it is to swim.

I'm so pleased you love it there, we are coming back for a visit in June so I'm really hoping to swim.  We'd really like to buy in the area next year if we can.  So replies like yours are so helpful.   Thank you.

No worries Julia I'm glad if the comments are helpful .

If you are doing a property search I can thoroughly recommend Graham of GLM Properties Estate Agents based on the main Strip in Los Alcazares who sold to us and who were very helpful with the usual follow up questions we all have when purchasing in a new area .

Good luck !

Clive

I agree, don't look any further if it comes to an estate agent Graeme and Romy at GLM PROPERTY is one of, or if not the best and most professional couple I have come across. Even with all my past years in real estate myself, can't fault them. Even their after sales service is top class.

You won't need to do anything if it comes to NIE number, direct debit setting up ext.

Good luck
