Could somebody tell me please if a non resident pensioner who is renting a property, can get free health care. Or is it for

residents only.   Many thanks.

You can get treatment for urgent problems using your EHIC. Not every health centre offers this - for example the clinic in Los Alcazares does, but the one in Los Narejos is only for registered residents. Be prepared to need an interpreter.

When you say you are non-resident do you mean you are only here for a short holiday? You have two options, use your EHIC, or use private clinics (obviously at a cost). If you are here for 90 days you must register on the foreigners register, and if you are here for over 183 days in a calendar year you are regarded as tax-resident and must change your status to resident and pay taxes on all your worldwide income. This does mean you can start the process of getting an S1 and joining the spanish health system.
