Hi Frank

All sounds OK.

London wanted photocopies of every page of my Passport!!   I supplied copies of Prudential P60 but they needed Bank statements to cover the regular payments so spent 2 hours travelling across London to get these from my Bank.  These were stamped (just a rubber stamp) but the others I supplied were downloaded including my Spanish account.  The lady was dubious about them accepting a "non original" document but as you say, most stuff is on line now or App only.  I also took Deeds, NIE etc. but none was asked for.

I think all the Documents only have a 90 day life so make sure your appointment is in time.  My GP delayed confirming the signature with the FCDO for 5 weeks and I had to start everything again (and pay).

Also, you can only get an appointment with London via a link on the Website.  They will not answer e-mail, phone or letter.  i hope Manchester is a little easier.

Good luck

Thanks Vic....I'll take a copy of the full passport to be on the safe side.

Hi

A few points:

Check which forms need to have a 'Sworn Translation' and plan this. My solicitor did mine, but otherwise you'll need to find an approved company / person - I think I was quoted £30 per document for these.Your Hague Apostilles should take about 10 days to turnaround.Medical insurance - my understanding is that you need private healthcare for the first year, even if you qualify for an S1. I would check this asap, as it's a significant extra cost if you need private healthcare (as I believe you do).Stamping documents - none of mine were 'stamped' by the bank, etc. and that didn't cause any issues, but if you can get them done, I guess that helps. We also had a copy of our house deeds (even if they are not on the list, we were advised to provide them).CheersRichard

Hi Rich,

Thanks for the note on the S1 form.

I called them today and they said that they will only post out an S1 form to a Spanish address no more than 4 weeks before you travel. I tried reasoning with them that I need it for the visa application BEFORE I travel to Spain, but only got 'that's our protocol' as a reply. They admitted that 'there are a lot of people in your situation' but they will not post to a UK address.

So you are correct.......you need PHI in order to get the Visa....once in Spain, I can apply for an S1 form, but of course the Insurance premiums are non refundable...as you say, a significant extra cost.

I've applied for quotes from a few companies, so let's see what comes back.

Hi Vic

My doctors are still holding us up on the medical certificate saying its a private issue and they have not been doing any private work since March 2020, they say it is not an urgent issue, I have replied and they said they will look into it but here I am still waiting after 2 weeks for their repl...

...y.   I can't even go into the surgery as it i appt only and they say I don't need an appointment.

We need to move out from my daughters as she is expecting and we are in what would be the nursery ! So finding somewhere to live for a short period of time with 2 dogs is proving impossible, she is due any time now and what should have been 1 month maximum has turned into 4 we feel like such a burden !!

The dogs are well behaved and we try to keep out of the way but it is the space we are taking up ! I am losing the will a bit now as it feels like one step forward 2 steps back.

Also because we sold the house this year we may end up paying capital gains tax on it in Spain which can equate to thousands almost enough to buy another property out there.

Its all very frustrating.

We are booked for the ferry again in June but may have to move the date forward again.

One day !!!!

Best wishes

Ang

Hi Ang

Just wanted to catch and see how you are progressing.

I have had my visit to the Consulate on 20th August but still waiting for a reply and getting rather nervous.  I'm booked to fly out on 27th September and hoped to have everything sorted by then.  I had to start all again as I ran out of time before becuase of the GP delay.  My only real worry is that my Bank statement from Sabadell in Los Alcazares was printed from my Account on line and not an "Original"  I was also sent out to get Staements from my Banks here to prove that my Pension payments were being paid in!

Fingers crossed!!

Hi Frank

I used Abbeygate and got insurance with DKV.  It was approx €1300 for 9 months which i thought was excessive but I wanted to be sure it was accepted by the Consulate!  The lady at te consulate actually told be I had paid too much and to get something cheaper which i will look for when/if I get out there.  Having said that, I am 75 and that may have a bearing on the price.  I'll look into the S1 as well.

Hi Vic,

Abbeygate have just quoted me €2,725 for full cover for both of us......ASSSA have quoted €2,540...but we have  not yet disclosed any medical history, so I would expect that to increase.

I've applied to Sanitas and am waiting for a response. What bumps the price up is that I believe there have to be no excess or Co payments on the policy.

Interesting comment from the lady at the Consulate.....perhaps she knows somewhere cheaper :)

Yes, that's correct, there needs to be nil co-payments and you have to pay in full for the year (i.e. not by monthly direct debit).

We are paying c. £1,300 pa for both of us with Sanitas, but aged 50 & 48, with nil pre-existing conditions.

Hi RichT.

Great info as always.  I enjoyed reading about your journey over.  Well done, yourself!!

I'm applying for an NLV and will have to go to Murcia to collect my TIE so no passports involved at the Consulate.  All the lady said was "it will take a while" and confirmed that they had my address and e-mail so I am still in the dark as to how they respond. They have the date for my Flight on the form so hopefully I will hear in time.  So, yes, happy, excited but apprehensive!

I must try and find Ang (Little Gran) to see how she is progressing.

Vic

Hi Rich

Update.  Into the 5th week of waiting but i got confirmation of acceptance on monday and went to London yesterday.  Slightly different approach there!! Stand in the street opposite the consulate and at exactly 11 a.m.(If you are late, no visa will be issued!!!) the Man appeared and took all our passports and travel dates.  "Wait there for an hour" was the instruction and he re-appeared then and handed back our "visa-d" passports.  All done in the street -very spanish!!.  So- panic over and off to Alicante and Los Narajos on M.onday.

Rather than trawl back through all the messages, can I ask you what info you had to take to the Office to sort your TIE.  I assume you went to Murcia and the Foreigners place not the Police.  Is the process painless and do you have to make an appointment?  I am getting my Padron this time but appintments were 3 weeks on when I booked that.

Thanks for your help and I trust you are now relaxing and enjoying life.

Hi Vic

Great - well done! (and, as you say, very Spanish!)

Our appointments were made for us by our solicitor, but this is basically what we did (Note - all this has to be started within a month of the date of your arrival in Spain):

Padron

We attended the town hall in Lorca (which covers our area), with an appointment to get on the padron. We had our passports containing our shiny new visas (NLVs) and our deeds to our property. Note - we have photos of our all documents stored in our phones, but they insisted on seeing the original NIEs, which our solicitor hadn't listed as being required - so this necessitated a 1 hour return drive to our property to get the originals (and much stress on my behalf!). In my opinion - take everything you have!

There was a bit of confusion, as, firstly, we live out in the countryside and don't have a standard address; and then the town hall lady (who was very helpful) found that the previous residents at our property had not removed themselves from the padron, so they had to be removed before we could be added. We were then given padron certificates for use in the residency process and also for buying a car (because we asked). In what we found strange, at the end of the process, we had to pay a small amount into what I can only describe as a ticket machine on the wall, which prints a ticket that the town hall attached to their copies of the padron certificates, to show that you've paid for them. They were something like €4.60 each - so take plenty of loose change!

TIE

About a week later, we had our TIE appointment, which was at the Foreigner's Office in a Police Station in Lorca. In advance, we had been given a form each to complete and then pay (for the TIE appointment). Again, strangely to us, we had to take the forms to a branch of our bank (no other bank could do this) and pay a small amount (I forget, but maybe €12) and then the bank stamped the forms as paid. We then took this form, along with our padron certificates, passports, NLV, two passport sized photos and NIE - to the police station at our appointed time. There we handed over the documents (the Police officers didn't speak much English, but the Lorca is a not a tourist area) and had the fingerprint of our right index-fingers scanned. We were then issued with a receipt, with a number on it and told to look on a particular website in about 40 days time, where we could check if the batch of numbers including ours had been completed. We could then make an appointment via this website to go back to the Police station and collect our TIEs. At this appointment, we had to show our passports and also have our fingerprint scanned (to check who we were) and then we were issued with our credit card sized TIEs.

Hope this helps and happy to answer any more questions...

Richard

Hi Ang.

I'm pleased you managed to get all your paperwork sorted and your appointment done.   I went on 20th August and had my confirmation on Monday, so into my 5th week which seemed about the same as the others waiting there.  I went to collect on Tuesday (before they changed their mind) to collect.  You can go any day Monday to Thursday at 11.00 p.m. and you have to wait on the opposite side of the road (outside No 21) and a 11, a guy comes over and takes everyones Passport and confirmation of your next travel date. You then have about an hour to kill until he comes back and returns your passport with its Visa. So all done in the Street - such fun!

I was booked to fly on 27th and was getting very nervous but all is OK and heading out on Monday.  I have an appointment to get my Padron and just have to sort the requirements for the TIE and book the appointment for that in Murcia.  Rich T has put on a lot of info about this for me, really useful if you can find it!

Well, good luck guys with the Consulate.  Let me know how it goes and maybe we can meet up sometime for that Vino
