Estrella de mar
Hi All,
I am interested in a property that I have seen for sale in Estrella de mar urbanisation. Can anyone tell me what it is like to live there? Is it open all year round, are the shops, bars etc walkable?
Thanks in advance
Karen

Hi Karen,
Do not laugh: Estrella de Mar has 2 sites: one “posh” (from the RM-F54 to the Mar Menor) and the “normal” is from RM-F54 away from the Mar Menor. Google maps for Los Urrutias and you can see what I mean. When you zoom in the map it will show you where the Restaurants and Supermarket are.
Estrella has 3 Restaurants the Supermarket is in Los Urrutias ca. 1KM there you will find more restaurants.
It’s mostly a residential area with UK, German, Dutch, Belgium & French population.

Hi, thank you, I think it must be the posh side lol as it is only 400mtrs to the beach (apparently) it says ther are also tennis courts to use? If that narrows it down? The property is white, but when I have been trying to zoom in on Google earth I can't see any white ones 🙄

The area is very quiet outside of the summer holiday season as there are many Spanish holiday homes...some good restaurants within walking distance but you will really need a car to get to any of the big supermarkets or towns..Cartagena is only about 15 minutes away...

Having purchasing our own place last November eventually going to live out here and after holidaying here on and off for the past 10 years We love it. Estrella de Mar is like marmite, you either love it or hate it
The people are friendly and will help you if needed, you will need a car through
Is it not possible for you to come out and spend some time here then you will be able to see for yourself if you like it

I am visiting Los Urrutias in May to view potential holiday homes to buy. In particular the Estrella De Mar area. My challenge is I am a nervous driver and would hope to be able to get to supermarkets, Cartagena and Los Alcázares by public transport or taxi. Are these readily available throughout all seasons? Thank you.

No public transport links available in urrutias you have to own a car to live there !!
Go stay there before buying if you can to make sure its right for you don't make the same mistake we did. !! We have just sold up there. The Mar Menor is not all its made out to be either. Dirty and smelly you certainly can't swim in there although the spanish do !!
Good luck

Thank you for this reply. We are staying a few nights in May, on the same complex where we are viewing properties. That should give us an idea of what it would be like to be based there. I did read the beach isn’t good; that’s a shame. I think the lack of transport will be the deciding factor though I think I read there is a new bus to/from Cartagena (?)
Probably not the place for us but will check it out. Take care!

Best to look in Los Alcazares where the Mar Menor is clear and safe for the hundreds of swimmers who swim every day when it’s warmer. Lots of supermarkets and other amenities within walking distance and transport links to nearby towns and cities. Estrella and Los Urrutias are not for everyone…and you need a car!
