I spend a lot of time in Los Urrutias and have a flat on the beach there.  Although it is very quiet in winter there are plenty of local residents and a surprising number of cafés, bars and restaurants are open year-round.

There are by my count 8, restaurants and bars in and around Estrella de Mar, 3 or 4 in Los Urrutias, and 2 in El Carmoli.  All are open most of the winter months.  Naturally, there are more at weekends.

Anyone who enjoyed the recent 'Ruta de las Tapas' in the village which had 14 participating establishments can tell you that there was plenty of choice.

Also the new hotel at Estrella de Mar is due to re-open under new management in June.

Not bad for a small community.

We considered buying a property in in Los Urrutias  but after visiting there we  realised it was to quiet and not a lot to see and do . We then visited Los Alcazares and it suited us a lot better, it was still quiet but with more cafes , restaurants,  shops etc . We loved the area so are in the process of buying a property there. My husband and I are in our 60s so wanted places we could walk to easily from our property and this area suited what we wanted.

Hi, Los Alcazares is a good option and I would also recommend Lo Pagan, San Pedro Del Pinatar and Santiago de la Ribera. Bear in mind that all these places will be quieter in the winter but the majority of bars, cafes and restaurants do stay open

I am looking at Lis Alcazares aswell and do like the feel as I can walk and stop for a drink or food. Is there any other areas like Los Alcázares  with low rise buildings and miles to walk?

Hi Annemarie,

We (Dutch) live permanently at Mar Menor (San Pedro del Pinatar) for a year now and we love the area. As we are living close to the center in San Pedro it is very much alive in the summer time, but in the winter as well. We choose this village because of this lively situation, but also the nice beaches, lots of shops, resturants, lovely squares and the flat surface becuase we love biking. During the winter we were driving around in the car a lot and we were a little chocked to see so many properties, streets and even villages very empty. From November untill now, more or less (exept Easter). In my opinion the smaller the village the quieter outside the summer.

Your budget seems allright for your wishes, but the property will be in a smaller area like Los Urrutias. That said you also might check the area between San Pedro and Pilar de Horadada called El Mojon. You do will find some first line properties with long walk beaches. El Mojon it self can be a bit quiet in winter time, but it is very close to San Pedro and Pilar with lively actions in the winter time. Also Los Alcazaras is a very nice town with all kind of amenities. We go there once a week, nice beaches, but maybe little hard to find first row for your budget.
You’re thoughts for the wintertime things can be very quiet in some villages, so like some others also suggested I can advise to search in Santiago la Ribera, Lo Pagan, El Mojon, Los Alcazaras.

All with nice long beaches, low building and lots to do and see during the wintertimes.

In need of some extra info? Don’t hesitate to ask.

Good morning

Thank you for your time and information.

I will be back in 3-4 weeks with my husband who loves cycling to look at the area.

Much appreciated.

Annemarie
