Hi. I'm reluctant to carry around my driving licence at all times as I had mine stolen from the car a few weeks ago.  If I was stopped by the Police / Guardia Civil, is there any grace period to get your licence from home or do they expect you to have it with you at all times? I suspect the answer could be the latter ...... !!

You should always carry your ID with you at all times, so if you are in your car and driving, you should have your driving licence with you as well as the documents for the car. You could go to a Notary and get "copias compulsadas" of your documents if you are worried about carrying originals but although these are certified as true copies, you may find that the policeman/woman who asks to see your documents, won't accept these. Your driving licence is better off with you in your wallet than left inside the vehicle.

Thanks, Mags. I think I knew that would be the sensible answer but appreciate it. I have all the other required documents in the car already. I'm not sure about you, but I find this a really risky thing based on the amount of personal identity information that could be stolen and used for who knows what! Thanks again.
