You may have other products with Sabadell or pay in to their requirements & thats why you have not been charged ??

Hi, no other products with Sabadel or depositing a certain amount each month.

For some bizarre Spanish reason you have to go into a physical branch to close an account.

In September 2020 I closed my Sabadell account remotely. Let me explain, I went into the branch to close the account but as I had an outstanding payment on the credit card it wasn’t possible to close it there and then. I was told once the credit card was cleared all I needed to do was transfer my money out and get in touch with Sabadell customer services to close the account. I cleared the cc within a couple of days, transferred the money from Sabadell to another Spanish account and emailed and telephoned Sabadell customer services to let them know I emptied my account and wanted it closed. I received written notification of the closed account with a week.

Perhaps it was possible because I went into the branch with the intention of closing the account, but technically I don’t see how my prior visit would have played any part in me transferring my money out and getting in touch with customer services...

That's very interesting.  Did you open your other Spanish bank remotely, and how quick was Sabadell in responding to your emails?

I opened my new account in person.

Sabadell responded within the week when I emailed/phoned to say I had emptied the account and wanted to close it.

If you are unable to open a new account for whatever reason why not set up your direct debits/standing orders from an existing account, a post office or UK bank account and then close the Spanish account. I can’t imagine that any losses/gains on the exchange rate would be in excess of banking fees, only thing to consider is would the post office/UK bank charge for paying forgiven bills? But worth exploring and it’s what I will do if/when my new bank introduce fees.

Hi have done a transaction this month?I'm looking into transferwise as an alternative right now is it easy to Do?. Regards gaza.

We also use TransferWise and bank with Sabadell (in San Pedro), the process is so easy with TransferWise, competitive & quick.

No charges from Sabadell either using the TransferWise payment system.

You can also get a debit card and use that in shops etc...it’s multi currency so you can hold £/€ not all your euros need to sit in Sab

Transfer your account to Cajamar Wefferent! No charges for transactions in Euros!

Two things.

1. Apply for REVOLUT card to do your Euros transfers from UK banks. Better conversion rates.

2. Move to CAJAMAR. No fees

Hi, I have an account with Sabadel. I use TransferWise to transfer money from my Nationwide account in the UK to my Sabadel account, for the past 12 months I haven’t incurred any transfer fees on either end and I usually get a good rate with TransferWise.

Hi,

I'm with nationwide and also have a Sabedell account, I have always transferred with xe.com but recently

Sabedell have charged me €18 a time, I'll now try Transferwise, thanks for the info. I have also mailed xe,to ask the question why a fee acurs with them but not Transferwise, I'm waiting for response.

That sucks. Can’t help with what has already happened but, have a look at the online bank Revolut .. No, I’m not on commission, nor do I work for them, but you can hold multiple currencies. I put an auto-convert on so when £ to € hit a certain rate it’s automatically converted into € . Great for buying presents etc online for friends in other countries too. I’ve been using Revolut for around 3years, & really love it. NO exchange fees, & I never have a charge for making payments into my spanish bank. Very intuitive to use & a host of other benefits to help you keep track of what you’re spending where. I love the ease of use, yes you can withdraw cash too. Physical & virtual cards for shopping. Check it out. I wouldn’t be without it now. Revolut Bank

Stay safe.. & sane ;-)
