Closing bank account - Page 2

I'm sat in San Javier right now as just closed my Sabadell account 

I went in person with passport.  (go v early in the morning or you have no chance of getting in !)

I believe its appointments only after 11 am ???   but don't quote me on that 

you could give your Solicitor in Spain "Power of Attorney" and then they can do it for you 

your App will be blocked straight away as mine was !

Have you tried ringing them I know they helped me over phone when I was locked out of Online banking.I was going to try that when I'm ready to close  as still waiting for Direct Debits to be taken out Wise Account.UK banks allow you to put request in Writing if you write to head office.Keep us posted if you manage to close Online as I think it will be very useful for others.

Hi househunter, thanks a lot for the info. I have some money left in the account, would I have to transfer it out to my account in the UK first then try and close it online as back here in UK.  Failing that I could ask my lawyer to do that as she has POA for us. Thanks again. 

The lawyer can transfer the funds after closing. 

Just give them you Iban etc 

Don't empty the account before closing it or you might get overdrawn fees etc.

We closed our account in person in March 2019 even paying for the fees calculated to that day. This year we received a bill from them in each name for fees for 600€ and we are furious as now wish we had asked for confirmation in writing that we could prove it. We can't get into account and although we, ve just had a visit to Spain we did not even visit the branch. Hubby is adamant they can "get stuffed". Anyone closing account demand confirmation in writing as we asked would there be any more fees and agent said no. They are trying it on.

I closed my Bankia bank account nearly 2 years ago & they kept trying to charge me for many months.

I had a letter confirming my account closure when I closed it in branch.

I just kept emailing them the account closure confirmation letter until finally they stopped contacting me.
