As from the 1st of January it will be necessary for all cars entering most cities in Spain to display an Emission Sticker

These can be obtained quite easily by taking your car registration document and personal details of the car owner, to any post office and pay the 5 euro fee. They will issue this straight away, you then need to stick this (self adhesive) in the lower right hand corner of your windscreen.

Even if you do not think you need one as you don't go to cities, for 5 euros it is better to be safe then sorry.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to everyone.

Ed

Where does the 1st of Jan deadline come from? According to the CAB Spain website, this will not be compulsory until nearer 2025.

I can see that it might avoid being stopped and questioned, and that municipalities can possibly implement this rule individually.

From the info I've heard my car would probably be a B (2006 petrol) and apparently I wouldn't be able to Park in either Murcia city or Cartagena??

Why not go and get one? For €5 you will know what restrictions you may have and will at least not get pulled over and fined.

Peter, I suppose my point was (if my previous post is true) I'd be effectively banned from any city over 50,000 residence because I wouldn't be able to park in the city. Of course if the rules were like London congestion zone or similar. It maybe only a small zone within the city limits. like I could park at Ikea Murcia and take tram to city centre for example??

Stu - I still think that you would be better off finding out for sure what grade your car is - that will give you the base for you to check what you can and cannot do? You are most likely to be fined for not displaying the sticker, but if you find you are limited in anything and you choose to avoid the city you can always leave the sticker in your dashboard or toss it in the bin...

Just enter your matricula in the following form Check the environmental badge by license plate, which DGT sticker corresponds to me? (motor.es). This is free.

Hi good information, thank you.

We are coming over later in the year and due to the fact I still have three years finance left on my UK registered car. I will be bringing it over with me for the permitted six months, then I will drive it back to the UK and VT it. I have tried your link but it won’t let me put my UK reg in.

Is there anyway to test the model do you know?

It’s a 2022 AUDI A4 S line Petrol 2.0 Auto.

Much appreciated

Rick

You did not say that you were talking about a UK registered vehicle! As the UK does not have environment stickers it seems that you do not need one:

From the DGT site “Comparing emissions badges across the EU

A number of EU countries have created their own classifications for vehicles based on emissions levels.

In Spain, emissions badges aren't awarded to vehicles registered abroad, because they aren’t needed. If you have a vehicle from another country with an emissions badges scheme (such as Austria, Denmark, France or Germany), you will be considered to have the equivalent Spanish badge.

This link contains information on how categories from different countries correspond to each other. You can use this to determine which Spanish badge is equivalent to yours and work out which traffic restrictions might apply to you, allowing you to drive on Spanish roads with an emissions badge awarded in your country.

NB: This system of equivalent badges only applies to driving in Spain. Other countries will have their own rules. As a result, if you plan to drive your vehicle in Austria, Denmark, France, Germany or any other country with an emissions category system, you should find out in advance whether you need to get a badge for the country where you are travelling and how to do so, as well as the conditions for driving there.”

I did say it was UK registered and I said I would be driving it in Spain
