...ay £5.90p, why? I wasn’t given any opportunity to refuse the package as it wasn’t produced until I paid the £5.90p. I am totally bewildered by these charges.

Same here. Calendar sent by well meaning friend cost an additional €7.28 yesterday!

You’re lucky that you received it. I’m still waiting for three items which were posted in September, one of which was only a greetings card.

...'s rate?

What happens when someone sends a T-shirt costing £4, VAT charged at 22% in U.K. and postage of £5, the package arrives in Spain, Correos then charge VAT on 10.80 euros (approx xchange rate) plus other charges. To me VAT has been charged twice, once in U.K. and once in Spain. This is an hypothetical situation but this is what us happening.
