Since Brexit, same rules apply to posting packages from as have always done posting abroad, eg to Australia , the US, etc etc.  namely, the sender needs to complete and attach to the outside, a customs declaration stating what the item is and the approximate value.  This applies whether...

... it is goods being ordered from outside the EU or a gift from one person to another.  Doing this correctly means that your items are far less likely to be delayed by being opened and checked by customs authorities

Thank you - yes my family had completed the correct customs declaration so we knew that was all ok, but thank you so much for explaining tbat the extra charge was for excise duty. That was really helpful.

Kind regards

Beth

The only people that think things are, as you put it "BREXIT SOUR GRAPES" are people that did not understand exactly what was going to happen. besides that postal service throughout the world can have delays. Including using courier services.

I do not believe that Spain is delaying mail from the uk on purpose, do you really think they do not have more things to worry about?

Remember what people have said about Spain for many years "MANANA"

With respect how would you explain it? We have been here 18 years and it’s a great place to live but this has never happened before.

Well I have also been in Spain and other European countries for over 25 years and and do actually remember mail taking up to 3 weeks or longer and the UK was in the EU then or as it was called the common market.

In October 2021 this statement was issued by UK post office.

"The simple answer: Your mail may slow down because the Postal Service lengthened its “service standards,” or the amount of time it says it should take for a piece of mail to get delivered. And how much slower it will get depends on where you live."

In June 2021 this statement

Therefore, Spain's post is currently able to send mail (letter-post, parcel-post and EMS items) to a majority of countries with which routes are open. Nevertheless, Spain Post cannot accept letter-post and parcel-post items for those destinations to which it has no transport capacity.

In December 2020 this statement

The British Post Office has confirmed that due to the current situation regarding restrictions on travel to France and the huge backlog of lorries waiting to cross the channel, that postal services to much of Europe has been temporarily suspended including Spain.

Maybe because of these previous issues things have just not caught up? Lets be honest who knows but I don't really think we can say "Spain is withholding mail" because of Brexit. It is possible although that with the transportation problems we can blame Brexit, but that has nothing to do with Spain.

Ok. I accept all that and I don’t really want to get into a long friendly debate. The fact remains that mail from Channel Isles takes a few days and from UK several weeks. Something wrong somewhere. Thank you for your positive input.

Thank you I’ve read that. As a matter of interest the three items I am waiting for from UK have still not arrived. They were posted from three different locations in September. I still think there’s a big problem.
