Hi. My wife and I are planning to caravan in the area from September to May. Not necessarily at one place. Any suggestions for a site with good size quiet plots, hook ups, swimming (pool or lakes) clubhouse? Thanks.

Hi there!

Just a quick comment on your plan.

I am no expert but would suggest you check out if you can stay more than six months in Spain without registering as a resident. Also check   Your vehicle insurance will cover you for such a trip, most restrict you to 6 months out of UK.

Hope this isn’t an intrusive message, just trying to help!!

Have a great trip

Bob

You must register as a foreigner after three months, and become tax resident if you are here more than 183 days in a calendar year, so latter will not affect you. Good point on the insurance though.

There is a site in Los Narejos which a friend was going to use last year but sadly his wife died on the journey so he never got here, thus no report

Thanks for the comment but my understanding is that we are required to let the local town hall know that we are staying if longer than 3 months but it is just a formality.

Registration is one of those "formalities" that have been largely ignored (though it is not just a question of letting the town hall know but getting an appointment with the National Police and registering) but will, if ever they sort out the ridiculous mess that is Brexit become more important. Free entry and exit with dates unrecorded will end, as will Brits being treated as any European citizen.

The vehicle insurance is the most important for you to check, as the Guardia Civil will happily impound an uninsured vehicle at the roadside, leaving you with a raft of problems. It may be a question of being very careful with your timings, but not worth taking chances with.

Just this week one of the illegal Brit taxi services was stopped near the airport, the passengers left to sort themselves out and the car impounded, with a 4000 Euro penalty to get it back.

Maximum time you can stay in Spain without registering is 6 months also jacking a vehicle overseas for longer than 6 months and it us deemed you have exported the vehicle and taxes have to be paid.
