The very best of luck with your search, you will not regret moving to Spain.  The best advice, which I'm sure you are aware of, is to rent for 6 months or more and do some exploring, there are a great many diverse areas in both Murcia and Almeria for you to choose from.

You should check out Puerto de Mazarron and the surrounding area 😉

Try El Alamillo on the beach nice 20 min stroll along the beach near to shops on the edge , of busy not in it . bought my place two years ago no regrets 😎😎👍

Thanks for the advice. Renting may not be practical as we have cats but it is still worth serious consideration. Cheers!

We have a 2 bed Villa in El Saltador, Almeria, which is for rent, cats not a problem.  PM me if you would like more info.
