May I kindly ask how you do this. When I go on the transfer wise web page there appears to be no mention of an actual bank account that deals with your direct debits. Mark.

You need to give whoever you are paying direct debits to your transferwise bank details

Just send your money from transferwise to your Spanish account - we use Sabadell and when we transfer an amount in Euros from UK to Spain we just send via Transferwise. Have been using them for about 2 years. Transfers are cheap, at the current exchange rate and extremely fast - sometimes just ta...

We get FREE transfers. We use Currencies direct...no charges.

There have been several reports on this forum about the Spanish utility companies refusing to use a non Spanish IBAN code.

Don't take this nonsense from them whatever they say.

I use CD and Sabadell have charged €18 for transfers since January 1st.

For info as I have just found out:

CD have told me that some banks have chosen to charge but should not be doing so as CD use a SEPA  account  They are currently negotiating with these banks to drop these charges and are themselves refunding any made so far.

So hopefully it won’t be a problem in future

I have been using Revolut bank for around 3years. Internet bank where you can hold multiple currencies. I’m not affiliated in any way, just a solution.

Highly recommended, no charges to hold an account or make transfers . Fast transfers etc .. makes all the problems you’re having go away.  Revolut dot com

If you use Moneycorp to exchange sterling to euros and then transfer to your bank account, there are no transfer charges applicable as Moneycorp exchange offices are based in Dublin, which of course is in the EU. There is also no charge for transferring sterling from the UK to Moneycorp. You can contract for a fixed exchange rate for a fixed term if you wish, as well as conducting individual exchange transfers. You can also pay any direct debits via Moneycorp, providing that you have sufficient funds in your account of course. Well worth checking out.

I was advised that to set up a direct debit for the annual IBI payment from the Agencia Tributaria in Mazarron it must be through a Spanish bank account. My Euro account is with TransferWise based in Belgium. If anyone knows any different I would be most grateful for the details. Roland??

You most definitely do NOT need a Spanish IBAN code to set up your IBI Direct Debit.

Despite what the Spanish tell you.

I got my solicitor to change all my DD to Transferwise in January 2020 including my IBI payment.

All the DD are paid successfully.
