If you are a non-resident, you have to go to a branch to open a Wefferent account at Cajamar. Only residents can open on*line.

I have my residencia. I emailed Cajamar and apparently the problem is that neither my residencia nor my NIE have photos therefore, I have to go to a branch to open the account!

I'm guessing that some of you have nonphoto docs and have not had this problem registering online. Having experience of the ineptitude of banks here I will do as instructed.

I was with Caiaxa for 10 years but slowly the charges were going up so end of Sept last I closed my account and now have a transferwise account for most and an N26 account for a direct debit that wanted a Spanish account

Both are done totally online and no charges at all and both have a debit card again no charge

It's not because of the ineptitude of the banks that you can't open an account online - it's the law! In order to stop money laundering, Spanish bank accounts must be opened in person by the account holder or the process can be started online or by a lawyer or other professional person on their behalf but the account holder must present themself with their ID before they can make any withdrawals or transfers. Maybe if you update your old residencia document to the new TIE that does have your photo on it, you'll be able to start off the process online.
