I can’t help you I’m afraid. I ended up staying with the bank as we didn’t know how to transfer the direct debits over to TransferWise and our solicitors would not do it for us. I hope you get it sorted.

We use Transferwise to move funds from a UK bank account to our account at Cajamar in Spain.  I've found Transferwise to be a bit more expensive now than they used to be though. Our lawyer recommended we use Cajamar a couple of years ago when we bought our house as we wanted an account without charges.  They are brilliant.  A wonderful lady called Andreea in Cajamar Sucina speaks English well and is very helpful.  Although we did have to go into the branch and queue up to open the account which took a while we have never been charged for anything and are very happy with them.

I am looking at using Transferwise to pay utility bill DIRECT DEBITS NOT STANDING ORDERS.

Standing orders are completely different things.

I am getting well fed up with the Spanish banking system after 16 years of of playing their 'charge you for everything' game.

I don't have a large amount of euro's a month ( in any form, pension or otherwise ) to pay in to get free banking, I don't want to take the bank's insurance, I don't want to finance a car & I am not under 26 years old.

So no free banking for me.

So that is why I am looking at people like Transferwise, Revolut, Starling & others to pay my utility bill direct debits.

Try looking at N26 online  its 5 euros a month charge they give you a debit card with a Spanish Iban number ok for Iberdrola electric direct debit.  Caixa bank have a charge for just about every transaction on top of the 3 monthly charges.

Thanks Roland, I'm with caxia now €35 per month fees and €30 foreigners fees.

N24 no longer recommended by the experts. I have to wise debit card with contactless and no issues so far. All supermarkets and petrol

  • N26 – Best Low-Cost Bank in Spain for 2021.  Its a German bank but they give you a Spanish iban code
