Hello

Sorry if this has been discussed before but can anyone advise me about my car tax?

I own a holiday home on Camposol but do not have or have needed a post box until I bought a little car last March. I have been told that the powers that be will post the documents to me between February and June of next year, but as I do not have a box where will these documents end up? Do I really need to rent a box for just one document a year?

Anyone else in this position?

Many Thanks

Fl

It depends which sector you live on if you live on B C D it should go to the Correos office next to the Black Bull on B sector & you would have to take ID to collect it but if you don’t collect within 14 days it is supposed to be sent back. That would be tricky as you have such a vague timescale but you could check every week. If you live on A your post would go to the office there.

As with most things Spanish your car tax document could arrive at virtually any time between February & June or perhaps not at all !!

The best thing to do is set up a Direct Debit payment at your bank for your car tax then it does not matter what happens to the document.

You are then assured that the tax has been paid. You do not need the paper document really anyway.

If you are on A Sector there is no actual Correos office just the Post Room. It is only open between 10.00am & 4.00pm weekdays.

Cost of a box in there is ( or was ) 15 euro but this is a one off payment NOT a annual one,

Thank you Roland you seem to be able to answer all my questions so here is one more!

Is taxing the car the same as paying the IBI? in that I go to the Town Hall and they give me a document to take to my Bank?

I will most definitely set up a Direct Debit as the thought of not being able to collect any post they send to me on time is very worrying.

As it is I have to get my ITV done 2 1/2 months before it is actually due because I am not in Spain when it is.

But nevertheless I view all this as being lucky enough to own a very little car and house in Spain.

Sorry, I have just thought of one more thing, do you have to book an appointment well in advance for an ITV? I am only in Spain from 30th October until 9th November, will that allow me enough time do you think?

Many Thanks again, I don't know what I would do without this forum.

Thanks Shirl

As you say, my time frame for collecting my post is so vague that the only option is to set up a Direct Debit.

Thanks for your reply.

IBI is not the same as car tax.

IBI is a property tax that you have to pay every year.

The best thing to do again is to set up a Direct Debit payment at you bank.

I have set up my IBI payment with my bank but I do not receive any documentation at all.

You might be better asking your solicitor in Spain to set it all up for you ??

Re ITV test

You can book appointments online at a time & date to suit you.

Just put ITV Lorca / Totana / Cartagena etc into Google & follow the links.

Thanks again. Sorry I didn’t make myself clear. I realise that IBI is not the same as car tax. I meant to say that I pay my IBI by going to the Town Hall where they give me a document to hand to my Bank and then I pay at the bank.

I was wondering if that is what I can do with my car tax. Collect a document regarding the tax and then go to my bank and set up a Direct Debit.

I am so grateful for your time.

Flo

Hi Flo you need to take your documents and bank details to your local town hall and they will do it all for you.
