Not sure if this is good advice. My understanding of the double LL is that it's pronounced like millionaire - so the first "l" is pronounced L  and the second "l" becomes a Y.  Saving Mil yon aire. That would make pollo POL YO. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I am no expert, but the main reason I posted this was to prevent/advise people not to order POLLO at a restaurant because it is somewhat rude.

If you are speaking in front of a Spaniard, always remember that a double ll is pronounced as a y. Remember this especially if you are ordering chicken (Pollo) in Spanish at a restaurant etc." Poyo " otherwise the waitress might give you a slap.

Lol got in trouble once in a shop , when my girlfriend needed a pencil sharpener, thought the best way in the shop was to point my finger in one hand , into the circle I had made with my other two fingers on my other hand , her expression said it all with shock as she shouted for sons and husband ,making my fingers work faster in and out , luckily before the beaten I picked up a pen from in front of her and pretended to sharpen it !,,, OH THE MAN SAID SACAPUNTAS , one word in Spanish I’ll never forget , was also the last holiday with that girlfriend lol

Thanks so much I’d definitely try there .As much as you try at home it’s the pronunciation of the words ,and putting them into the proper conversation, that you just don’t get from books and tapes , but I have started watching as much Spanish television just now , just to start hearing tone...

...s , and expression of the way Spanish people communicate, again thank you so much all this information does help thank you Hugh

Regardless of what other people are saying, watching Spanish TV is a great help to improving your Spanish! When I moved to Spain in 1983, there was no UK TV, and where I was, not that many Brits around either. I used to work in a Spanish environment and put my TV on all the time when I was at home and watched everything from the news to comedy shows and films - some English language films dubbed into Spanish. I started to recognise certain words and looked them up in my huge Collins English-Spanish/Spanish-English dictionary to see what they meant and then looked up to see how they were used. I also had a couple of books on learning to speak Spanish and a very good verb book. Anyone who tells you that you can learn Spanish from just being with Spanish people and learning it from them is speaking rubbish unless you are surrounded by educated university graduates. Learning a language from people whose own knowledge may be limited, won't help you learn to speak the language properly. Nowadays there is a lot of help for those who truly want to learn to speak another language, so watch Spanish TV, get a good dictionary and take some private Spanish classes. Learn how the letters in the Spanish alphabet are pronounced to ge the sounds right. You can only do it if you push yourself or you could just join the rest of those whose Spanish consists of being able to ask for "una cerveza por favor", "gracias" and "la cuenta", because they say "everyone speaks English, so why should I bother?"

I was also taught that the "LL"s in millionnaire was exactly how the "elyay" letter should be pronounced. Bella was Bellya and not Beya and Marbella was Marbellya and not Marbeya. Of course, if you were South American, you'd probably pronounce the LL as a J anyway, just to confuse the issue!

Yeah I’m trying to think how I started at school with my little word tin lol and I’m doing my colours, then fruits then names of places , I’m trying plus it’s became a challenge between the two of us ,me and aunt ,who would have thought at our age were  still competing between each other lol Then like school I’m going to try and learn songs in Spanish, I’ve applied for a job in the airport hopefully listen to people and maybe getting the chance to listen to the interpreters will , then all going well if the chance comes up I get a transfer , thanks  for help and information, a lot of the Spanish films I’ve watched have been brilliant, the stories were totally not what I thought the Spanish culture was like , but hey ho the world is a changing place? Thanks a lot as i always say any information is truly always helpful

Check out the rules on time limits, even with a EU passport, and your liable for tax, so look it all up first.

You will still need Spanish Residence, subject to your stay time limit, and you will need by law to fill in the 720 declaration, again I think subject to length of stay.

There are rules that you will have to abide by, even with a EU passport, again subject to length of stay, and of course the driving license.

There are Spanish lessons in Tels bar on B and Marianos on A. All the bars and most of the shops are English or English speaking. Spanish will help in the chino shop supermarket and the Post Office.

The town and port are very Spanish along with nearby villages.

You rarely hear Spanish spoken on Camposol but it certainly helps to learn it. My husband has been going to lessons for nearly a year and tries to speak what he can when off Camposol.

Hi do you know how much the lessons cost at these 2 places and are they weekly sessions.
