We were told in order to avoid any kind of hassle in case one or both  of you die it is imperative to get a Spanish will even if you already have a UK one

Been shopping around so far but will be looking to get it done quite soon. We use PALS solicitors and they just sent me a form to complete on-line and they will do the rest but sounds at 150 as though they may be on the expensive side but in the end I guess we pay for their assistance and we can trust them

We also bought on Camposol and will be residents in 2019. But the home is only in my name because the money comes from my father and this is a new composed marriage with children on each side. In Belgium where we come from, the law states that on my death my husband would be allowed to stay in the house untill he passes, and then it would go to my children. That is of course only the case when you are legally married. As laws are different in different countries, I also want to make a new will in Spain.

A firend of mine, who is a lawyer with a lot of international experience, has advised me NOT to have a will drawn up in Spain. I wil try to explain what he told me. I am Dutch by the way. My friend explained to me that anyone person should have only ONE will. Having more than one will can cause discussion/disappointment in the future since one can supersede the other....

I can see that in a way that makes sense but if in the Spanish will you only refer to the Spanish property and Spanish bank accounts then locally I assume that makes it easier and in theory should only mirror what is in a UK will anyway...?

That's what we were told anyway...

A new will abolishes the old one if it's registered.

We have a will in USA. Although we added our Spanish home into that will, we were advised to have a will made here in Spain only for our property in Spain because different countries have different laws. Now we have a will here as well. Oh well... It's what it's. Thank you.

Thats what we have been advised as well. Apparently it simply makes it easier and quicker to have the Spanish property covered by local law even though your won "home" will is good and valid

Do you have to be resident to make a will in Spain. We will not be residents untill next year.
