Metal detecting

Some people will tell you that you need to join a club etc, (as they did to me a few years ago, but as there were no memberships available I didn't bother). In my experience no-one seems to bother if you are just detecting on the beaches. However you need to be very careful if you are near any historical areas or sites, if the authorities think you are looking to plunder "loot" they could seize your detector and possibly fine you.
