You can actually stay in the EU for 183 days, but stays beyond 90 days require a Visa.

Completely wrong and mixed information if British. Visitors can come (when they change the closed border rules) for a maximum of 90 days in 180. If you intend to take up permanent residence in the EU you must register within that 90 days - you become tax resident in you are in Spain for more than 183 days in any calendar year.

Sorry

but i am correct in what i have stated, you need to apply for a visa beyond 90 days with a maximum stay of 180 days, cost of visa is 60 euro and not easy to obtain as you have to deal with Spanish Consulate in London direct.

It is becoming harder by the day to migrate to Spain or the EU. Over the coming years less and less Brits will make the move, this can only be a bad thing for the coastal regions economies. i am already hearing of people who have holiday homes putting them up for sale ( if they can and probable l...

This is also a big loss for Brits that planned to retire in Spain. Many are now turning to Turkey.

Spain welcomes Brits, but only if they follow the rules. I looked at Turkey a few times and visited different parts, but Spain is far nicer and stable. Some of the houses in Turkey were poorly built and many did not have papers. Weather was great and the people so friendly though.

Getting a bit heated here. You are both correct about 90 days. For all the official necessities, I just use my abogado, my Spanish lawyer to arrange everything. He sorts everything out for me and I have had no problems at all.

Totaly agree with your comments, but for Brits now wanting to move to Spain, many have now given up, and some there with holiday homes are starting to put them on the market.

Its not a Spanish thing, but EU law.

Friends of mine have just sold up and gone back. Not sure what to, but I prefer this warm sun we have today than the UK freeze

You can stay for 180 days in total in a year but cannot stay for more than 90 days in those 180 days. Check the Schengen calendar and you can work out the number of days at any one time on a rolling basis. I read somewhere last week that musicians (original poster) now have to apply for a visa to be able to perform inside the EU. http://schengencal.com/

I stand by my previous Comments, Visa required.

Hey George, 23 degrees here and lovely warm sunshine. Main reason I left the UK was the cold and damp. Wrap up well.
