This covers the water joint where the sink shower / bath drains, it acts a little like a trap. Unscrew the silver cap you will find a large black plug made airtight with the big "nut" in the middle, this can be loosened the pulled out to reveal pipe connections.
Hope this helps.
Should there be a sewer-like smell omitting from it? Only noticed today and thought it may be connected to the recent heavy rain but if it just allows access to the joint for the sink/bath drains then maybe not 🤔

There will be a smell if its not sealed as all waste goes into the sewer.

It is called a spider and is the drain cover for the wash hand basin water and bath/shower water to drain away. THIS IS NOT anything to do with waste from the toilet, that is a separate system completely. If you get a smell from it, depending on how old it is you may need a new rubber seal. This can easily be bought and fitted from Leroy Merlin etc.
Hope it helps!

Kaz, sorry to correct you but this system is not completely seperate. On camposol the waste from the sinks and bath / shower join into the toilet waste system under the floor, as can be clearly seen in the underbuild if you have one.
