We are looking at solar panels, elsewhere in the Med. they are very popular and we are surprised to find them so scarce in the area.

Does anyone use them either past or present.

Look up the regulations and taxes involved. I have seen that you have to register as a generator of electricity and have to pay tax on the electricity you produce. What with the cost of the units it doesn't look too cost effective. Investigate it thoroughly before you decide.

We must have been one of the first businesses on Costa Blanca to install solar panels back in the 1980's! We had boarding kennels situated obviously in a rural area,no electricity or mains water. So we invested in solar installed by a German company & ,I think, were Swiss manufacture. We did have to wash over the panels regularly due to the dust & heat which was OK since they were installed on our roof terrace,& we actually were able to buy a gas run fridge to save on the electricity being generated.Nowadays it is all much more sophisticated & I think it is very worthwhile if you are planning to remain in the property long term as it is expensive to install. When we retired it was a great selling point for our business. You just have to get used to not using everything at once. Also it does not,as some think, depend on the strength of the sun but on the amount of light during the day.Again being a business we did have a generator as back up.But as I say that was many years ago & I would consider this for a home in Spain again ,after all the source is there & free to be taken.

From what I have been able to find, I believe that if your output is less than 10 KW the tax issue goes away. Can anyone confirm this. Especially someone who is already using solar panels

Sanchez government is changing the law to make it easier to install solar but as I understand household users were under the bar for obstructive government rules anyway. Another example of why UK residents want  BREXIT and all these stupid controls to benefit the nationalised energy companies in Europe collexting back door taxes. Spain with the least developed solar renewables in europe..... WHAT!???? Beggars belief. Control control taxes and more control..
