Please can anyone help with advice on the following:

What’s the best way to keep the shutter blinds oiled and working smoothly?

Hints on how to avoid the damp problem in the built in wardrobes. My clothes etc small of damp and some pillows stored at the top have gone mouldy!

Any advice gratefully accepted

Thanks in

This post that was quoted has been deleted.

Thanks for the reply. We used to run a guesthouse in an 11 bedroom Victorian house, so we understand the importance of airing the rooms. I must admit I was not expecting problems in a modern house in Spain.

The bathroom windows are always open and bedrooms all day. So I now have to leave the wardrobe doors open most of the time too . Drying clothes in doors and damp towels has always been a no no.

No sign of damp patches or obvious reasons inside or out as to why there is a problem.

Thanks anyway for your input.

Put bowls of cat litter in the wardrobes. It's cheap and works.

Hi kat,  You need to have some form of dry heat source in the bedroom ,especially in Winter. You can get low wattage wall mounted electric panels to give background heat. Easy to install and do the trick re condensation and dampness, an inherent trait of Masa un-insulated houses I'm afraid.  You're doing the right thing by leaving air circulation into the wardrobes and cupboards. I have lined the outside wall of mine with polystyrene tiles and now have no problems. Otherwise get insulation boards fitted everywhere, - a more expensive remedy.

By the way Kat, you don't have to oil or otherwise maintain roller shutters. - Just use them carefully !  Mine have lasted 15 years with no problems other than pulling them up too far into their housing at the top. Easily pulled out again manually with tongs or pliers. If I did have any problems, I would ring Brian Jones to fix them. He advertises regularly in the Calida Chronicle and other freebie mags.

And you could use the lavender scent litter they sell in Consum for a pleasant smell as well.

If you use cat litter, scented or otherwise, make sure you don't have any cats in the house - or you'll regret it, because they'll use it !
