What is a dkv

Is prescribed medications expensive  to buy in Spain

Thank you steve

Hi Steve

DKV is the name of the company - not sure what the initials stand for.

I've not had much need for medication (thankfully) but from what I've seen, prices seem to be lower in Spain for most items in the pharmacia.

Cheers

Hello Steve, The insurance rates are calculated on age and pre-existing conditions. DKV (Deutsche Krankheits Versicherung) is one of the two largest operations in Spain. Sanitas is the other. Rates are very similar between the two. AXA are very competitive, but watch the small print. Another highly competitive company is Adelas, the rate are up to 50% lower than the big two, but coverage is a little more restricted.

If you are in your 60's then expect to pay about €300 a month for a couple.

I'd saved this link, which gives an indication of %s to be paid, but doesn't help with the actual price of the prescription drugs...
