Hi, I’m Neil and I joined this forum just a few days ago. I’m looking to retire to Spain within two years (personal circumstances are keeping me tied to the UK for now). I’ve looked at Camposol and the Costa Calida and I’m also looking into the area around Torrevieja. I want to be around expats but also want to integrate with the local culture. I’m a married man and my husband is called Ged. I look forward to hearing your thoughts about where we would be best looking.

Neil try looking further towards Aguilas. It’s a little more Spanish but it has an expat community too .

We have owned a house in Calabardina for 10 yrs .

We now live in Australia but we miss Spain .

If you want to rent my property for a holiday to get a feel for the area let me know . Sharon

Thanks for your reply Sharon. I’ll look into the area. I’m unable to travel atm because I’m caring for my 90yr old mother who is housebound but as soon as I’m able I would be very interested in renting a property to get a feel for the area.

Hi Neil,

My name is Pat (Patricia). My husband and I have looked at both the areas you mentioned. We wanted Spanish with expats but found these places weren’t what we personally were looking for. We decided to look more inland and came across a town called Blanca in the Ricote Valley and fell in love. Yes it’s 50 mins from the airport, there is no beach but you have the Segura River where you can raft, swim, fish, paddle board, canoe etc and it’s a beautiful place. It’s very Spanish with a small expat community but that doesn’t bother us. We purchased a holiday home there last October with a view to moving out there permanently in the next couple of years.

Happy house hunting!!! 😁

Hi Neil! Nice tux/pic by the way! I am Micaela. Hubby and I first fell in love with Torrevieja area   but upon researching, we found out that beautiful area had many problems. We bought in San Pedro del Pinatar area instead. Keep looking and checking. House hunting so exciting. Best wishes to all including your mom.

We initially looked at Camposol but decided it wasn't what we were looking for.  We're now in the process of buying in Castalla, near Sax, inland from Alicante with views of the mountains and a good mix of ex pats and Spanish.  It might be worth a look.  Good luck

Two very handsome men!

Take a good look around take you're time, we started looking last August, and we are now  the proud owners of a stunning Villa on Camposol Sector B......we looked at many other places in and around the Costa Calida area and also the other Coasta's but Camposol just kept pulling us back, its mostly ex pats but other nationalities also, very very friendly people.........when we went out again in April this year we came back take a look at a property we had seen in October the year before, (lucky still on market) we met a fabulous couple who in turn invited us to say with them for 5 days in July this year....they also gave us the loan of one of their cars (wouldn't happen in UK)........we move in in October this year......13 weeks to be precise......lol....not to be biased but make the choice in your own time...........good luck and happy house hunting............its so exciting
