Hello I am looking at buying a holiday home in Spain. Can you give me some feedback on this area? It’s myself my girlfriend and a 5 year old... we were due to fly out and look December but we can’t at the moment with Covid . Any honest advice would be great

Yes covid has certainly  stopped  a few plans. Camposol offers very good value for money. Close to many facilities. You would need to have your own abogado( solicitor). Do not accept what any estate agent says.  Make sure your house is legal and has no embargoes.  For that you will need your independent solicitor. After Brexit, rules will change, ensure you have enough money to stay here.

Maybe worth noting that the original poster states he is 'looking at buying a holiday home', not a permanent move...

Post-Brexit you really must do the maths. Ignoring travel restrictions (who knows what you will be able to do next year) you will only be able to get total of six months use of the property in any year. You are restricting yourselves to the same place every year.

You may consider that tying up a substantial amount of money in a property, compared to being able to choose, say a couple of weeks in the Italian lakes, another two in Florida, or Chicago or wherever, and without the awful officialdom that Spain lands you with, particularly as a non-EU citizen for taxes, health care, high fixed costs of utilities, car hire and so on.

I agree if it’s a holiday home look at the coast, anywhere along the Mar Menor so from San Pedro del Pinitar/Lo Pagan all the way down to Cartagena.......we fell in love with Santiago de la Ribera...

If you will be happy to spend all/most of your holidays in your holiday home (and why wouldn’t you when you find your perfect place) then it’s a great investment, my husband was reluctant to buy a holiday home citing not wanting to holiday in the same place every time.....that’s a distant complaint as once we got set up he can’t get enough of it....it’s so relaxing knowing where you are going, being able to relax straight away, revisiting restaurants and places you enjoy and getting to know some of the locals....of course there’s red tape and bureaucracy but worth it.....good luck with your search.
