I bought an electric-bike, specifically to provide a practical and easy alternative to the car, and facilitate an easy link between the generally very calm and tranquil life on `D' (despite the occasional, irresponsible & obviously very deaf, yapping dog-owner), even though I am the lead, and often the only driver!
A bicycle does get you much closer to the reality of nature, the sights, the smells, the sounds, and doesn't necessarilly scare away the wild-life like a car, so, even if you're not an avid ornithologist, a pair of of binoculars can be a great asset! It is also so much easier to stop. or just pause, here and there, admire the view, and get your bearings! The exercise of pedalling is of course highly beneficial, but the additional option of electrical-power removes all the fears of "Shall I manage the hills alright? Can I go all-the-way? Even if so, can I manage to get home again? Isn't it hard in this heat? What if I run out of puff?" So you can relax, take it as fast or slow as the mood takes you, and enjoy the Spanish countryside in all it's glory! It also removes that vague fear of being totally stranded should the car get a puncture, refuse to start, or the only driver is nursing a hang-over!
Any kind of bike can be great, but whether because I am a 70-year old widowed pensioner (but only slightly disabled), or just plain old-fashioned lazy, I opted for an e-bike to make my life a little easier!
