Let me know if you find somewhere. I tried several companies and was told they are illegal if they are positioned so that they can record an image of someone without without their permission. So if a burglar is breaking into your house and you record him, he can sue you.

Hi, I've been thinking about getting cctv fitted for a while and I suppose it depends on how handy you are. Leroy Merlin do a good selection of diy ones, check them out, but not sure if anyone does them on Camposol yet. In answer to Dodgement's reply, I'm not sure who told him about the legality of cctv monitoring your own property but I'm pretty sure they are wrong. I would say, as long as the cameras are covering only your property and not the neighbours or the street, there should be no problem. A quick question, if cctv were illegal and people could sue if they haven't given their permission to be filmed, why haven't we seen huge court cases involving numerous shops, restaurants etc. These record images all the time for the protection of the business yet they don't ask for permission!!!!!!

Good point - if they were illegal then every shop using CCTV to stop shoplifters would be breaking the law. Even in our PC-mad world I can't see this being a problem. Maybe you need to put up a sign saying "Access to this property is recorded by CCTV and by entering you give permission to be recorded..." :-)

All you are required to do is put up a notice that CCTV is in operation.

Wrong information! You're not supposed to film people passing outside your property or neighbours, but in reality that's difficult to achieve. The Police in the UK have asked me in the past for footage of the road in front of my property at certain times to help with inquiries. By law you should display to the passing public, or anyone wishing to enter your property, that CCTV is in operation on your premises.

Installing most systems is a DIY doddle. There's no need to pay over the odds to get a system installed.

I agree if the CCTV goes out & into a public place ie a public pathway or road.If the CCTV covers only a restricted area within your property legally required to put up signage.

....and what about all the dashcams? The Police are always asking for footage, and I've often sent footage to companies whose drivers have cut me up etc. Now you have to be pretty dim to drive like a maniac in a company vehicle with all the contact details painted on the side!

It is illegal in Spain for private individuals to install and operate cctv cameras at their homes, unless they pay a

commercial security company to monitor the filmed footage on their behalf. - another crazy Spanish law ! Methinks it's all

designed to protect Spanish security companies from competition. Why not try a "Ring" doorbell you can secretly

monitor from your phone?
