It's a plague allover Europe since the poison is forbidden. 

Try the old farmers method. Place a tube, plastic pipe, or similar sized object to prevent household pets getting inside. Mix up a dry powder of corn flour and Plaster of Paris, put into tube. Must be perfectly dry !. Put on the rat run area. Rats tend to go elsewhere !.

Thanks I have learnt that rats need water.i am no longer collecting aircon drain into an open bucket am now using plastic bottle.I been advised by a vermin person that it is water as much as food waste.I keep everything outside clean & minimal. So far they seem gone.
