Car Tax

You will receive a renewal notice in the post.

I have just bought a second hand car and while the Tax is not due for another 10 months I am a bit concerned as to how the car tax Office will be able to post a renewal to me as my house is just a Holiday home with no postal service and I do not currently have a post box to go and collect mail as I have never needed one. How do I get past this and also what can I do to tax the car if I am not in Spain at the time it is due to pay? Same applies to the ITV? It is due in January when I am not in Spain!!!

Is Direct Debit from my Spanish Bank an option?

You can arrange to pay your car tax by direct debit. Don't leave it or you will be fined, there is no SORN here.

As for the ITV do it just before you go back. If it runs out you cannot drive it to the ITV, you need to get a breakdown truck to take it there.

Thanks for the tip regarding the ITV! Can I get someone else to take the car for that test or does it have to be me in person?

Sorry for more questions but I am new to owning a car in Spain and do not want to fall foul of the law without knowing!!

You need to take all your documents for the car, your padron, NIE and bank details to your local tax office and they will do it.

As for the ITV anybody can take the vehicle. I usually go to the test station in Cartagena, they are fairly quick.

Where IS my local Car Tax Office. I am on Camposol. I don’t have a Padron as I don’t live here by naturally all the other things you mention are not a problem. But if you can point me in the direction of the relevant office that would be great!

The tax office is in Mazarron. From the Correos walk past the Town Hall, take first right then  first left and its on your left, only a very short walk. You will need a padron to do this. You can get one in the Town Hall, just make sure you take all your paperwork, passport etc and all your bank details.

Oh! The same place as the office for Ibi?
