Please can anyone recommend a reliable place to buy a good genuine secondhand car in the Murcia region.  Also which is the best company to use for long term parking at Murcia airport where they will meet and greet.

Many thanks.

Can't advise on the car purchase but can on the parking.

We have used Plane Parking SL for nearly 18 years now.

Excellent service, never had any problems at all with them.

Prices etc here.

The used car market in Spain is smaller and different to the UK. There are two main reasons for this - firstly, company cars are rare in Spain, so there are less ex- company cars into the used car market; and, secondly, there is a tax to be paid by the seller when selling a used car, so many families hand cars down until they are run into the ground. This means there are expensive fairly new cars and very cheap, old, high-mileage cars, with not much in between!

www.coches.net is the Spanish equivalent of Autotrader, so is a good place to start. Also note that cars are advertised with 'cash' prices and 'finance' prices - but the finance prices appear lower, because they don't take into account the cost of the finance (nuts!).

Hope this helps!

Hi, we used caroutlet.es and bought online as soon as we saw something we wanted - cars are flying out so quickly due to the ridiculous car hire prices.  Purchase was very, very easy with the company doing all the paperwork for us. Can't recommend them enough. We ended up with a 13 year old Seat Ibiza!! Hope this helps.

Hi

We use Park and Fly located at Murcia international airport. Pedro and his team are excellent. Unlimited pick ups and drop offs, they wash and clean car each time they drop it at the airport, all within the annual fee. They will arrange ITV and services if needed obviously at extra costs. Their phone number is +34 606 689 097 or you can email Pedro direct on info@parkandflymurcia.com

When we needed a secondhand car that wasn't too old we tried the dealerships & got a year old car in great shape with a guarantee. The dealership did all the paperwork etc & it was very straightforward. They often have good cars in great nick & you have the security of knowing you are buying from a reputable dealership who have a name to protect.  We came across several cars at the time in various dealerships, Fiat, Renault, Mitsubishi etc. that would have suited our needs.

One thing to watch out for is the Padrón. He told us he needed one and we were between houses at the time having sold one but had not yet bought another. Bear in mind that the Padrón is only for confirmation of your address so that notifications of fines, upcoming ITV tests etc. can be sent to your confirmed address. Not everyone has or needs a Padrón but if you own a property or have a rental contract this will suffice as confirmation. We weren't told that and instead registered our car in our daughter's name as she had a Padrón, as a temporary measure. It cost over €420 to have the car re registered to my husband subsequently. An expensive mistake and an unnecessary one. Hope this helps and you find what you are looking for.
