Firstly let me say I am a dog lover. I have an apartment in lo pagan that I have loved from day one.

Since I have owned here,2 dogs at the end of the road bark all day and evening, roughly a month ago a young Spanish couple have moved into an apartment that is basically across the road from my apartment bedroom, they tend to stay in bed till lunchtime, as I think they work evenings, obviously that’s nothing to do with me.

They have two very large staffie type dogs that basically bark all day and evening till the couple go to bed at 2 in morning. It’s got so bad I’ve had to move into spare bedroom because farther away from the constant barking. I’m now considering selling up, as the noise is off the scale. I wondered if anyone has any advice as to any other options I could try, before I list ?

Don't know if this will help or not but it did for me when I lived in Ireland. My next door neighbors decided to tell me to F OFF so I got a court order against them and they had to remove the dogs. The dogs went to a farm so I was kind of happy for them.

There are new animal laws concerning leaving dogs on balconies or terraces. Report it to thevpolice!

Thanks for the advice. I was hoping not to have to get police involved, but may be inevitable .

I would not go to the police. Bad relationship with neighbours is never good. Are there no dog walkers/boarders in the area? I only paid €9 for my dog‘s boarding per day. Maybe somebody could walk the dogs to tire therm out? Having them removed into a rescue is not a good solution. They risk being pts. Poor dogs are frustrated and bored. Maybe some dog lovers who can’t/won’t have a dog now but miss their former dogs could look after these two?

Thank you for the reply. The dogs and owner arrived about a month ago, to my knowledge they have never been out for a walk, one did escape yesterday as a visitor left gate open. The dog ran straight for a chap below me to get his cats, luckily the cats got through the railings and dog just ran off. I don’t think the dogs have had any socializing, they must be bored stiff, poor things.

The problem is very rarely the dogs fault. Some people think that it's great to get a dog and ignore the fact that they are probably both out working most of the day. Most dogs are like children they love attention I suppose like most of us.

Hi I know exactly how you feel we’re just over at our house in La Ribera and have the exact same problem. New owners behind our house have 2 big Alsatians in a tiny apt and yard  the dogs barks all day long and late into the night I loved my house in Spain but now I’m thinking of selling. At least I I was able to get away from it and come home. Most of my neighbours are Spanish I don’t know how they put up with it. It is so cruel on the dogs .

Welcome to my world 😀 I am also surrounded by mainly Spanish owners,I don’t understand why they seem oblivious to the problem, or at least reluctant to do anything about noise levels.

The problem with trying to sell for me, is that any potential buyers would be immediately put off by the dogs, they aren’t really pets, more guard dogs.

I would be interested to know what is the procedure for obtaining court order in Spain, and would nuisance dogs qualify?  Blow the soured relations with uncaring neighbours - someone needs to let them know they and their dog are not the only people on the planet.
