Help !! Does anyone out there know why NIE numbers seem to unobtainable.  Been trying for 2 months to get an appointment at Cartagena Police Station.  I've rung everyday and am told everyday there are no appointments. Is there another way? My solicitors have tried as well to no avail.  Desperate for the NIE now, work are going nuts for it.

Any advise most welcome.

My partner went down to the police station (with our neighbour who is Spanish.....which might have helped), he wasn't seen that day but he left with an appointment for the following week......if all else fails.

Our solicitor got my NIE straight away.

Good luck.

Thank you for that info.  Going in person is perhaps the way forward. Boss (who is Spanish) has rung every morning and just keeps being told there are no appointments.  We asked our solicitor who also claims to keep ringing (not so sure about that though).  My husbands NIE was obtained by power of attorney from the UK with absolutely no trouble at all.  He needed it quickly to buy a car when we got here, and he got it quickly.  It took me by surprise how difficult its proving.

Thank you for helping.

There is a massive backlog due to brexit panic and people suddenly getting all their paperwork in order for residency, and also the fact that if we do leave the EU next week, the system will change. Maybe try getting an appointment in Murcia, you can go online and try to get an appointment booked. I think the appointments go live first thing in the morning. Good luck

Thank you I didn’t know about being able to go to Murcia, I was told Cartagena so I thought that’s where I had to go. Will try there. I asked the solicitor if they thought it was brexit and was told it would probably affect pardon and residencia application but they couldn’t see why it would affect NIE’s, I couldn’t quite work that out. Thanks for your help.

That is really useful.  Thank you so much.  They're our Car and House insurers, I'd no idea they could sort NIE's out.  I'll try them.
