Lidl is on the boat roundabout. Takes me 30mins to walk to it, but I'm a slow walker. Mercadona is closer. I'm also Lo Pagan.

Thanks for the info, I’m just over the border in Santiago, so takes 10 mins to walk to lo pagan center. I have walked to Dia a few times, which I think is just before San Pedro, thinking will get bus to San Pedro.

Oh thanks for telling us that. I often wondered how long it would take to walk it. I thought it would be longer tbh. Thanks again.

Hola everyone

Just been to local supermarket ( no car so usually shop local) The prices are outrageous. 1 liter of milk 1.50 euros 2 tomatoes 90 cents. Yesterday I got bus to dos mares carrefour thinking gotta be cheaper, mince that would cost £2 in England €3.87 bottle jar of tomato frito , want to make a s...

...paghetti bowl €2.89, better one be a pound back home.Over €7 euros to make a spaghetti bowl! The only thing I have found cheaper in Spain was a bottle red wine. Now I love Spain and my apartment in lo pagan, but I can’t afford to stay here for long

At least you've got food on the shelves in Spain. Try finding tomatoes in a supermarket in UK. As for you your £2 mince? It's been awhile since you've been to the United Kingdom. But by all means come back to the UK where there are more food banks than McDonalds. You can get to use one of those bank's where people have been forces to go to feed their families.

Most food is definitely dearer in Spain' but fresh fruit and veg is tastier in my opinion' if you enjoy your wine you recoup a lot of your euros.

I do like your positive approach to life in Spain. I found it refreshing to read something favourable.

It always amazes me when people complain about the way things are here that they never seem to factor in the many compensations that are also here. You never hear about how much less Council tax is here for example or how cheap booze is or the fact that for most of the year you are enjoying much better weather here. People forget what it was that brought them here in the first place and yes, no place is perfect but it's all about balance.

Yes you watch the news , read the tabloids they are all saying food banks feed more people then ever, but myself my friends and family don’t know  anyone who has ever used one and would have no idea how to use one either .

We were out for Mother's Day last week in an Asian in Horadada. I had tomato soup my wife sweet Chicken soup. I had Chicken Sate and egg fried rice, my wife had sweet and sour chicken balls .only complaint , much too much food. Wife had large glass of Sangria I had bottled water. When I wanted to pay the bill they kept trying to get me to take free schnapps, we didn't. Total bill ,€24.70. !!

Recently been in Ireland it would have cost at least that for one !  Not knocking Ireland, I'm Irish.  I have to say in Aberdeen last year and prices seemed similar to Ireland. I generally shop here in Aldi or Consum, I find Carrefour and Iceland very expensive but there are some Iceland things I like and can't get elsewhere. Wow that was long, sorry

Yes I'm Irish too. We're there at the moment. We find that wine drives the price of a meal through the roof & I'm not talking about the most expensive available. A decent wine will add between €26 & €36 or €40 to your food bill. It's a Government tax and people often calculate their tip on the wine included part if the bill so they are tipping on top of a tax!

I also find that if you are dining in an Asian restaurant in Ireland your portion sizes are much smaller that the equivalent from the take away in the same restaurant.  I don't see that in Spain. We don't have huge appetites and often find one take away meal can comfortably accommodate our food requirements.

Heading back to Spain next week & cannot wait to enjoy dining out at a reasonable price. I'm not blaming the restaurants here, they have massive overheads, much heavier than overheads in Spain, insurance being a huge cost in Ireland and electricity, huge.  Sorry for going on about it, it's a source of much annoyance for me &, I suspect, many others too.
