Hi everyone, we have a holiday home just outside lorca and to. be honest are fed up with paying contortionate rental car fees and the whole stressful situation. To that end we are looking into buying a new car in Lorca, just wondered what peoples experiences were and what needs to be in place to do so. Many thanks
We moved here permanently (also just outside Lorca) in May and in June we bought a nearly new car.
In general in Spain, there is a less well-developed used car market - for two reasons - 1) company cars are rare in Spain, so there are very few 2-3 year old cars going into the used car market; and 2) culturally Spanish families buy a new car and then hand it down through the family and run it into the ground.
Around Lorca, I have seen a couple of dealers selling really cheap cars and then there's a jump to the car main dealers selling nearly new cars.
The Spanish equivalent of Autotrader in www.coches.net. Confusingly, cars are all advertised as a 'cash' price and a 'finance' price (which is always lower, but doesn't include the finance costs).
Car tax is cheaper than the UK.
The process was fairly straight forward - we had to provide my NIE number, but otherwise nothing different to the UK. We paid cash, so didn't get involved on the finance side.

Hi. How does insurance and ITV compare to the UK? I know there are loads of factors, but just in general. Thanks.
Insurance is I would say probably less than the UK.
Remember that most if not all Spanish car insurance policies include breakdown insurance.
ITV cost are less than the UK.
There is a Spanish website that gives you the ITV cost for each class of vehicle.

Many thanks RichT for the helpful advice. I had heard mentioned that you need to provide a Padron presumably this is to do with a new car

I think some places request a padron but that is only to prove your address I believe.
Probably easier ways to prove an address though.

Thanks for the good information, both. We are in the early stages of planning to buy a car as non residents. Interesting re the Padron as I know we shouldn't have this as we are non resident. I wonder if a utility bill or house Title Deeds would suffice for address confirmation? Again, thanks for the responses.

Hi there, we are also non residents. We called at the local Renault garage in Lorca and was looking at a new Dacia Sandero. The salesman said that we would require a padron before purchase.

It will probably take you longer to get your Padron than to buy the car !
Why on earth you can't get a Padron online these days I don't know.
( Well I do........it keeps all the rubber stamps in Spain in use !! )
I will be buying a new car in the next few months so all this info is useful to me as well.
